Where We Began

Dogs have always been close to my heart and a way of life. I grew up in a household where raising puppies was second nature, and competition dog training was a weekly occurrence for us. To me, dogs are family.

Early in my career, I had the opportunity to work under a well-established Iowa breeder, Laurie Brue, who was known for producing healthy, well-socialized dogs. What began as helping out around her farm quickly grew into a full-time role managing her kennel and working closely with her dogs — experience that gave me a strong foundation in responsible, hands-on breeding. My mother co-founded Laurie’s kennel with her own dogs living on the same farm, so after my mom retired from dog breeding, I was able to continue working with many of the same bloodlines she helped raise.

When Laurie decided to retire from dog breeding, I was presented with the incredible opportunity to take over the reins and continue raising exceptional puppies under my own business. I take this very seriously because I know all too well how important a dog is to a family — at the end of the day, they’re part of the family. I’m proud to carry forward the combined experience of my mom and Laurie, using what they taught me to raise a new generation of dogs with unmatched quality.

This is not a guessing game to me. I’m not doing anything new or experimental — just continuing what has worked for decades and doing it well. Each of our puppies is backed by decades of experience, continuing education, and the shared knowledge that guides every part of our program.

In July 2021, I was presented with a unique opportunity to purchase a property just a few miles north of my previous location. That September, I closed on the property with the intent to move both myself and my business there. A great deal of work and preparation went into building this new kennel facility to ensure it upholds the same high standards of care. As of late October 2022, North Iowa Puppies LLC proudly operates from this new acreage.-Storm Green

Our Breeding Practices & Facility Standards

North Iowa Puppies LLC

At North Iowa Puppies, we believe responsible breeding begins with responsible care. Every part of our program is designed to provide comfort, safety, and the kind of healthy start every dog deserves. All of our dogs have indoor and outdoor access through dog doors, allowing them to move freely throughout the day. They receive clean water and consistent feeding through automated systems, helping maintain routine and reliability. Inside, each area is fully climate-controlled with both heating and air conditioning, along with ventilation that balances temperature, humidity, and air quality throughout the year. Pregnant and nursing mothers are moved into a quieter, private suite to reduce stress and provide a calm, peaceful space for raising their puppies. We follow a veterinarian-approved plan for exercise and enrichment that includes daily social interaction, access to appropriate toys, and activities that promote both physical and mental stimulation. Every adult dog is examined annually by a licensed veterinarian to ensure they remain healthy and sound for breeding. Cleanliness and biosecurity are a top priority. Our facility follows strict daily cleaning protocols and preventive measures to minimize the risk of outside pathogens. To help maintain these standards, we don’t bring visitors through the dog housing areas—but we’ve created a better solution. To provide a great experience for both our dogs and our customers, we’ve built a dedicated office space specifically for puppy visits. Families can meet the puppy they’re interested in within a calm, welcoming environment—one on one, with no distractions. Each visit is scheduled by appointment, one family at a time, giving us time to go over care instructions, answer questions, and help you feel confident and prepared. This setup also helps us preserve the routine of our adult dogs, reduce stress, and maintain strong biosecurity for the whole facility. It allows us to meet insurance and liability requirements while still giving our customers a personal and meaningful experience. North Iowa Puppies LLC is licensed and inspected by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA #42-B-0318), and we also hold a permit from the Iowa Department of Agriculture(IA-11659). While USDA-licensed facilities are exempt from Iowa inspections due to overlapping regulations, I invited the Iowa Department of Agriculture to conduct a voluntary consultation when I moved into my current facility in 2022. We keep thorough veterinary and health records for every dog and puppy in our care, and we welcome oversight from our licensing agencies. We’re committed not just to raising healthy puppies, but to placing them in loving, well-prepared homes—and we remain a resource to our buyers long after the sale. I started North Iowa Puppies with a simple goal: to raise quality puppies the right way, with integrity, care, and respect for the animals I work with every day.

As of July 2025, North Iowa Puppies LLC has never received a citation from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the Iowa Department of Agriculture, or any other regulatory authority. We have undergone eight official inspections by five different inspectors, including both unannounced routine visits and scheduled re-licensing inspections, all with zero noncompliant items noted.

Some online summaries and AI-generated search results have incorrectly stated otherwise. These claims are false and not supported by any official inspection reports. Our full USDA inspection history is available through the USDA Animal Care Public Search Tool and the Iowa Department of Agriculture’s Commercial Breeder Database.

We also want to note that North Iowa Puppies has never appeared on any widely circulated lists of problematic or noncompliant breeders. We believe our consistent record of compliance and care speaks for itself.

We’re excited about the future of AI and the power it gives consumers to research breeders more thoroughly than ever before. However, we’re also troubled by current AI-generated summaries that contain incorrect or misleading information. This situation is a clear example of why it’s so important to verify sources directly, especially when using AI tools as part of your research. We encourage every potential puppy buyer to check official databases, ask questions, and base their decisions on facts—not assumptions.
